# Configuring an identity provider

**Before you can use an identity provider, you must first register with the respective external service.**\
For certain providers, we offer predefined templates. In addition, you’ll find step-by-step instructions for registering with these identity providers and configuring the service.

Currently our extension supports the following protocols:

* oAuth2
* Saml 2.0

We have templates for predefined providers, but you can of course also implement other providers that are not defined here, provided they support one of the implemented protocols.

If you are implementing an undefined provider, please first read the implementation guide for supported providers to obtain the necessary configuration.
